Published in 2023 by Goal/QPC and available on their website, the tagline of this book is “A straightforward guide” and that’s exactly what it is. The book opens with an easy reference Table of Contents and a page about how to use the “Memory Jogger”. The guide is designed to be used as a quick reference tool, complete with visual pictures so the reader can readily access any tool, concept or section quickly. This guide also comes with some downloadable tools to accompany the information, each reader should take advantage of these free resources.
The guide provides a solid introduction the concepts of auditing and provides insights into auditing fundamentals before moving into the main steps of auditing (planning, preparation, etc.). The simple steps within each chapter include “Why use it”, “What does it do?”, and “How do I do it?”. The steps are enhanced with case study references, graphics, charts, sample forms, flowcharts, and more.
I think my favourite part of this guide is the way they included tips throughout, offering advice and common-sense comments related to the topics. One common theme when reading the guide is emphasized in these tips, and that is “Auditing is not interrogating”. This can be read in several places and tells me the authors truly believe in the spirit of quality management system auditing.
